Material description: steel sheet quality material ARCORF, brand ARVEDI Spa Italy, equivalent to corten steel.
The material is in sheet form, with clean, grey surface, suitable for laser cutting, water jet, plasma, etc.
Corten sheet, also called weathering steel, forms a rust layer through a process called patina formation. When exposed to corrosive elements such as moisture and air, the steel surface reacts with oxygen and water molecules. This reaction triggers the formation of a thin layer of iron oxide, commonly known as rust. Unlike conventional steel, weathering steel contains specific alloying elements, such as copper, phosphorus, chromium and nickel, which promote the formation of this protective rust layer. Over time, the rust layer develops and stabilises, providing a barrier against further corrosion and protecting the underlying steel against degradation. This natural patina formation is a unique characteristic of weathering steel and contributes to its increased durability and resistance against atmospheric corrosion.
The thickness of 1.2 mm corten sheet can be used for different purposes, it should be taken into account that the thickness of the material can affect its structural integrity and it is important to check in which applications it can be used.
For applications such as decorative panels, interior cladding or smaller scale projects, 1.2 mm thick corten sheet can still provide the desired weathering properties and visual effect.
Thus, it is important to check with an engineer or architect to ensure that the chosen thickness is suitable for your specific project requirements.
